One fellow, dressed sharply in AMSOIL apparel, stood up tall and talked about how AMSOIL saves you money, saves you time, saves the wear and tear on your car, and saves the environment. Money: because you only change your oil yearly instead of every 3 months. Time: because you don’t have to sit around a lube shop every 3 months. Wear and tear: because synthetic oil runs cleaner and cooler (20%).

Well, that was a few years ago. And I was doing computer repair (removing viruses). And back then, business was very good. In today’s market, people with “bad” computers just buy new ones. And they can’t afford my going rate to have it fixed. That’s why I got into Search Engine Optimization.

So, when a local Independent AMSOIL Dealer called me looking for “Search Engine Marketing”, I looked long and hard into how AMSOIL works. And it does work. The gentleman never did hire me for SEO. Instead, I signed up and became an Independent AMSOIL Dealer. I immediately called up a few of my long time customers and explained the benefits, and asked if they would like to jump on board.

And that’s how I got here today.
From over 20 years of computer programming and 10 more years of computer repair, into selling AMSOIL.

NO. It needs more loving care!

Dust gathers into thru the fan onto the fins in both laptops and desktops. And it is worse in houses with carpets, dogs/cats, smokers and children… added traffic!

Suggestion:
Buy an external hard drive.
Back up your data and keep the hard drive in a separate room.

Update to my last post on dead computers:

Dust. Dirt. Dead Battery. These are the newest enemies killing computers! In the last 3 weeks, I have received no less than 16 calls. “My computer does not start up” “It makes strange beeps” “Nothing on the screen” “I smell smoke”. If you find any of these symptoms, it may be too late to save your computer !!! SPECIAL EMERGENCY PREVENTION: $140. Back up data (you provide the external hard drive). Blow out the dust and dirt (gas gun). And remove viruses and temporary files and all the other crap programs that are about to kill your computer! Call NOW

Sure, part of the reason is the recession >> People have keep their computers running years longer than the “manufacturers suggested life span” (2-3 years).

And yes, the computers have not been cleaned out.
That means remove the dust and dirt accumulated inside.
It also means Windows Updates. Remove temporary files and folders. Keep the anti-virus programs up to date… subscriptions as well as anti-virus definitions !

Have people just become “lazy?” Inattentive? Complacent?
Or forgetful?
More than one client has responded with “Computers are just too difficult to keep up with.”

I don’t buy any of that !
Sure, I have seen people driving and chatting on their phones or even texting, and yet the TURN SIGNAL is too difficult to reaach (it is a form of communication, eh?)

But, if your car needs gas or maintenance, do you not obey the laws of physics? Do you delay or ignore Dental appointments? Doctors? Do you stop paying your electric bill or house payments? (Ok, some people BYPASS most or all of these things… bad example).

It is time to take control of your computer.
Or to hire someone who will do the basic maintenance!

Within the court trail, experts have testified combing the data within Casey Anthony’s (and family) computer(s).

They have been looking for evidence related to the court case. Not surprisingly, they found over 3 years worth of history residing on the hard drive.

How does this affect you and your company?

The new name for criminal and corporate evidence is called “E-Discovery”. Investigators will examine all electronic records, be it phone, (land,cell,smart) or computer records. These records exist in at least TWO places. One place is obvious – your local device. The second is on the “carrier” or “server”. In other words, they can subpoena the phone company or the internet company for records.

This first part is pretty obvious. There isn’t much you can do about the records that are “out there” be it on servers or on the internet (example hotmail and yahoo email is located on the web on company servers and is available with or without your consent).

But you are in control of your computer. There are things you can regularly do to clean up your computer. Understand first of all that everything that you see on your computer screen comes down as a file, as text, as pictures/graphics and as web pages or emails. It will reside there forever. To a limited extent, you can clean up your computer using Disk Cleanup and Disk Defragmentor (Microsoft products). You can delete emails and archive them. You can clean up temporary internet files. But understand that when you delete something – you are deleting the “pointer” to the data – and not
the data itself. If someone sends you a letter that does not have your street number, but has your street, the letter can still be delivered (can be, at the discretion of the post office – grin).

Your house still remains there, just the street number is gone! The same is true with data on a computer. The data is sort of like a page with a page number. If you take away the page number, it is hard to find the page – but it is still there for all to see, if they dig for it.
